Viewed by appt. through Dec 5th.
Curated by Tamara Loewenstein

garrethA cynosure refers to something that serves for guidance or direction, attracting attention by its brilliancy or beauty; a guiding star or a person orthing that is the center of attention or admiration. Cynosure explores the ways that we make sense of the world we inhabit through perception. Using prompts to initiate dialogues, the works in this exhibition address the complexities of individual and collective consciousness by guiding the viewer’s gaze. How do we attempt to create meaning and understand the cosmos through patterns? What emerges when the need for language between two people is omitted? How do we navigate the visual world and make sense of the multitude of stimuli we come across on a daily basis?

Cynosure, curated by Tamara Loewenstein, features video and mixed media works by Laura Forst, Emmett Ramstad and Gareth Spor. The opening reception is November 21, 2008 7-10 p.m. The exhibition runs through December 5, 2008 by appointment only.
