In Getting Closer, Heather Renee Russ, Forest Kelley, and Rachel Styer present photographs of people on the ground, from which their subjects are searching for transcendence. Transcendence is represented more as desire than something achievable. The images depict optimism in youth and beauty in consequence. The ground stands as both a barrier for desire and an anchor of support in this exploration.
